Lab Rats
Improvisational performance, or simply improv, has its roots in the Italian tradition of commedia dell’arte and in the theatre training methods used by acting theorists including Konstantin Stanislavski and Viola Spolin. Improv really came into its own in the 20th century with the popularity of the British and American television series both called “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”
The Lab Rats is Pensacola Little Theatre’s Junior Improv Club. Membership is open to teens from 11 to 19 years old by audition only. Members meet on Sunday afternoons for 12 weeks and perform an audience-interactive showcase at the end of the semester. Sessions are led by Bill Whalen and Debi Dunkerley, who both perform with Pensacola’s professional improv troupe IMPROVable Cause. In each session, theatre games are used to develop skills in fast thinking, physical comedy, and humor.
Tution price is $75 per session and auditions for the fall session will be Sept. 12 & 13, 2011.
Lab Rats classes 2012-2013
Lab Rats Junior Improvisation Troupe members study comedy improv through games. This type of training encourages students to think on their feet, trust their intuition, and fully support the other actors on stage. The class culminates in a public performance in our studio space. Entrance is by audition only. Audition dates: Sept. 10 & 11 (fall session) and January 7 & 8 (spring session).
